Both Apple and Samsung failed to come up with the under display fingerprint sensor result of which is seen in their flagship devices. The fingerprint sensor of the Galaxy Note 8 is vaguely placed alongside the dual camera sensor and on the other hand, Apple ditched the Touch ID completely and came up with the Face ID. But, there are reports that the Korean giant may come up with the under display fingerprint sensor in its next Note device, i.e. Note 9.
According to an Analyst with KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kou, the Galaxy Note 9 may have an under display optical fingerprint sensor when it is launched in the second half of 2018.
The under display optical fingerprint sensor would mean that users will be able to unlock the Galaxy Note 9 by simply placing their finger at a certain area on the screen. With bezels on a smartphone are getting thinner and thinner, it would be ideal if smartphone manufacturers continued using fingerprint authentication for unlocking the device.
The Apple had to introduce the under display sensor in its anniversary edition device, iPhone X but had to ditch the touch ID due to production delays and deadline approached. The iPhone X instead comes with Face ID that uses a number of sensors for 3-dimensional facial recognition for authentication.
Companies have been trying to come up with the feature since very long and in May LG unveiled a fingerprint sensor that sits under the display. And Vivo recently unveiled the first smartphone with the under display fingerprint sensor developed by Qualcomm in the MWC Shanghai, this year. However, there are reports that three companies vying to supply optical fingerprint sensor to Samsung.
As the rumours of Galaxy Note 9 have started surfacing the internet, SAMMOBILE reported that Samsung’s upcoming S series flagship, the Galaxy S9 will be SM-G960 while the Galaxy S9+ will be SM-G965. Both the devices will feature curved edge to edge display and will continue to feature Note 8’s dual camera setup. There are also speculations that Samsung will also come with Galaxy X that will feature a foldable display in the size of a tablet. We recommend taking the rumours of Galaxy X with a pinch of salt, as of now.
